Upgrading Irie Pascal

If you purchased a license to use Irie Pascal after February 2005 then you are already using the latest version (i.e. version 2.6.0) and there is no need for you to upgrade. If you are not sure what version of Irie Pascal you are using then select About... from the Help menu in the IDE, or if you are using the command-line tools, just enter ipc at the command-line.

If you have purchased a license to use a previous version of Irie Pascal (i.e. version 2.5.1, or version 2.01), you can upgrade to the latest version (i.e. version 2.6.0) in one of the following ways:

Using the Irie Pascal (Windows Edition) Upgrade Wizard

If you are upgrading the Windows Edition, you can download and run the appropriate upgrade wizard: ipw-251-upgrade.exe (if you are using version 2.51), or ipw-201-upgrade.exe (if you are using version 2.01), which will guide you through the upgrade process. You must have a copy of Irie Pascal (version 2.5.1 or version 2.01) installed on your computer before you can use this wizard. Please note that this wizard can't be used to upgrade the evaluation version of Irie Pascal, if you wish to do so then simply download a copy of the latest evaluation version and install it.

Using the Irie Upgrade Utility

If you are not a Windows user (or if you are but you prefer to do things the hard way) then you can download the appropriate upgrade file for the version(s) of Irie Pascal you have licensed (more information below), and perform the upgrade using the Irie Upgrade Utility. If you have trouble downloading the upgrade utility (perhaps because your browser tries to open it up rather than saving it to your hard drive) then you can try clicking on the link with the right-mouse button, and selecting "Save Target As...", or you can try holding down the SHIFT key when you click on the link, or you can download the source code upgrade.pas, and compile it yourself.

Ordering an upgrade CD by mail

You can mail in a new order form along with a check or money order for the shipping and handling fee (US$5.00) to:

ATTN: Stuart King
221 S. State Rd, 7, #247
Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33317
USA

and you will receive the latest version on CD-ROM in the mail.

NOTE: You can go to buy offline to generate an order form and have it emailed to you. You would then print out the generated order form and mail the completed form along with your check or money order to the address above.

What is the Irie Upgrade Utility?

The Irie Upgrade Utility is a fairly simple program that generates a new file using both an old file and an upgrade file. The idea is that the upgrade file can be freely distributed but only people with the old file (in this case licensed users of Irie Pascal) can generate the new file. For our purposes the old file will be one of the files from your current version of Irie Pascal (usually the distribution archive), the upgrade file will be the file you download, and the new file will be the distribution archive for the new version of Irie Pascal.

How do you use the Irie Upgrade Utility?

First you should download the appropriate upgrade file (using one of the links list below) and place it in the same directory as the old file (i.e. a specific file from your current version of Irie Pascal).

Next you should run the Irie Upgrade Utility.

You should exit to a command-line prompt (if you are not already at one) and enter:

   ivm upgrade upgrade-filename

where "upgrade-filename" is the name of the upgrade file.

After running the Irie Upgrade Utility you should uninstall your current version of Irie Pascal and install the new version using the distribution archive created by the Upgrade Utility.
